Milagra's Story

Milagra's story started two summers ago when a feral mama got into a local shed and gave birth to kittens.  That shed happened to be owned by Emily, the niece of Kim one of our South County Cats foster volunteers.  Emily was able to grab one of the kittens, but before she could find someone to help her catch the rest, mama moved the kittens, not to be seen again. That one kitten was named Nugget who became a cherished member of Emily's family.

The next summer mama cat showed up again and Emily reached out to Kim for help who contacted one of our trappers, but the trapper was swamped and before she could get there, mama cat gave birth to eight kittens.  Mama moved the kittens shortly thereafter, but Emily continue to put food out as recommended and a couple weeks later mama brought the kittens back.  Sadly, there were only four kittens left, but our trapper was able to catch all four and they went to Emily's aunt to be socialized for adoption.

While Kim was fostering the babies, Emily came over to visit a number of times. She knew she really wanted to adopt one of those kittens, as they were at least half sibling to her cat Nugget and Nugget needed a friend.

Fast forward to vaccine day, the Emily's aunt was on her way into our foster coordinator's home to get the kittens vaccinated and somehow one of the kittens busted out of her carrier and took off!  The kitten disappeared into a backyard two houses away.  The foster was devastated! Our foster coordinator got permission to set a trap in the backyard and called in our trapping coordinator for advice.

The trapping coordinator jumped in the car and drove over with her trap and camera.  She played her favorite recording of crying kitten sounds and to everyone's relief the kitten popped its head underneath the back fence. As soon as the kitten saw the trapping coordinator she disappeared again, but after setting a couple traps with the recording playing and a camera watching, the foster and trapping coordinator ducked behind a shed and a few minutes later the kitten came back out and right into one of the traps!  Kim was overcome with joy.

Soon after, Emily decided on that kitten as the one she wanted to adopt and named her Milagra.  Once in her new home, Milagra bonded almost immediately with Nugget and Emily's son and the family could not be happier.
